The Corner Restaurant, Terrace Bar is located on the 1st
floor of the Mittapheap Hotel.
Although we typically serve a variety of many Asian dishes such as Chinese,
Vietnamese and Thai, we mostly specialize in Khmer (Cambodian) Cuisines.
Breakfast
The Corner Restaurant, Terrace Bar offers
Daily Breakfast Buffet serving both Asian dishes and Continental breakfast.
Guests can choose between rice and stir-fry with a variety of meats and
vegetables, Western style breakfast such as toasts with eggs, ham, and hotdogs,
baguettes with butter and jam, or white congee with salted fish and eggs and
fresh made noodle soups. To complete a balance breakfast, we also serve
cornflakes and muesli with fresh milk as well as fresh fruits, coffee, tea, and
orange juice. If the breakfast buffet does not appeal to the taste, guests can
also order from our A-La-Carte menu.
Lunch & Dinner
If you haven’t
experienced good authentic Khmer cuisine, you haven’t completed your trip until
you dine at The Corner Restaurant. For
those on the hurry during peak lunch hours, guests can order from our popular
lunch menu or our Weekly Set Menu Specials. Our lunch menu features tasty fried
rice, fried noodles, Vietnamese noodles, and rice plates with stir-fry. Our
Weekly Set Menu Specials include 1 stir-fry, 1 soup, steamed rice and fruit
juice for only $4.95.
To experience
the best of Cambodian Cuisine, guests can enjoy our specialties such as; "Ka-Peeh-Pow”
a delicious Cambodian dish made of ground pork, fermented shrimp paste served
with fresh vegetables; Fried Fresh Water Fish with sweet and sour sauce; Fresh
Fish in Clay Pot seasoned with black peppers;
Cambodian Vegetarian Soup with Fish; Chicken Curry or Rotti Chicken. The extra special choice is the Volcano Beef!

Whether your
travel here is for business or pleasure, we will accommodate your needs. After
a long day, you can unwind at the Garden
Bar & Terrace for a cool refreshing beer, a tasty cocktail, fancy wine,
and spirits and lounge and listen to music, or have a cup of espresso at the The Corner Restaurant. Happy Hour is
daily from 4:00pm-8:00pm and guests can enjoy "Buy 1, Get 1 FREE!” of Angkor
Draft and Cocktails. Refreshments go very well with choices from the BBQ menu.
Guests can choose from Grilled Seafood, Grilled Chicken Wings, Beef Satay, Pork
Ribs and Steak.
Why
is Cambodian Cuisines so special?
Cambodian Cuisines uses similar Chinese techniques such as
stir-fry, steaming, and smoking meats have also been adopted, as well as the
use of soy sauce, soybeans, bean sprouts, noodles and Chinese style seasonings.
And like in Vietnamese cuisine, fish sauce is served in, and with, just about
everything. Cambodian Cuisines are very closely related to Thai, because of its
ingredients and methods of preparations, however not as spicy. Cambodian cuisine is gaining interest in many
countries, with some people forecasting that it will become the New Thai, i.e.
the next cuisine from Southeast Asia to enchant the world.
Uniquely from all others, Cambodian cuisine derives its
flavor from spices and aromatic herbs, with little use of fat and meats.
This cuisine is a combination of complex, vibrant flavors and a delicate
balance between saltiness, sweetness, sourness and bitterness, with a keen
appreciation for textures.
The most unique Cambodian ingredient is prahok. This
is fermented fish paste and is used with much greater reserve than fish sauce,
so that when it does appear, it signals the food as distinctly Cambodian.
Cambodians are fond of saltiness and also like bitterness in their food.
Acidity is used to balance sweetness but is also appreciated on its own
in the form of tamarind, unripe fruits, lime juice and pickles. Coconut milk
helps to enrich stews, braises and curries. Meat is usually sliced or minced to
flavor dishes in small quantity. Rice is a staple and is eaten in generous
helpings with the other dishes.
Influenced by India, Cambodians have inherited the art of
blending spice paste using cardamom, star anise, cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg,
ginger and turmeric. To these spices, Cambodians add such indigenous aromatic
herbs such as lemongrass, galangal, garlic, shallots, cilantro and kaffir lime.
One of the signature flavors of Cambodian cuisine, the
lemongrass plant provides a distinctively balmy lemon flavor that is
reminiscent of its more aromatic relative, citronella. In Cambodia, it is used
so much that you see lemongrass growing in every garden. Kaffir lime
leaves are not only ground into spice pastes, but also used like bay leaves to
flavor a broth or sliced into thin threads as a garnish. The blend made with
all the spices and herbs is called "kroeung". This is the foundation of most Cambodian cooking.

Cambodia is well known in the region for its Prahok, a strong, fermented fish paste used in a variety of traditional dishes. Fresh serve bottled drinking water and tap water should never be drunk.

Similarly, salad and fruit served at these establishments are safe.
All Tours are based on full board arrangements. For full-day excursions, picnic lunch can be provided if no adequate restaurants are available.
Phnom Penh is a metropolitans capital, full of best place to try inexpensive Khmer cuisine, though Siem Reap also has some good restaurants.

One of the easiest and most affordable ways to acquaint yourself with Khmer cooking is to wander into the food stalls found in markets all over the country and simply sample each dish before deciding what to eat.

In Phnom Penh you also have the choice of excellent Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese, French and Mediterranean cooking. Rice is the principal staple in Cambodia and the Battambang region is the country's rice bowl. Most Cambodian dishes are cooked in a wok, known locally as a chhnang khteak.
